The main fear cited by the experts, most notable the Meteorological Office of the UK that used computer models to assess possible dangers posed to aircraft, was that the dust would damage the engines of aeroplanes, causing damage and possible catastrophic failure.

Caution won the day with thousands of flights cancelled or delayed and many times that number of passengers left in parts foreign.

One small group unaffected by the disaster was owners of motorhomes and those choosing to hire a motorhome, Most of these people simply stayed secure with a roof of their own over their heads or unplugged and drove home. If you like the idea of a motorhome holidays in the UK or Europe, you are not alone. It is an easier and greener option than flying.
